Chuck Hoberman was born in 1956 in Massachusetts, USA. He studied liberal arts at Brown University from 1974 to 1976. He gained a Bachelor degree in sculpture from Cooper Union in 1979 and a Master degree in mechanical engineering from Columbia University in 1984. He founded Hoberman Associates. in 1990. In 2008, alongside Buro Happold Principal Craig Schwitter, he formed the Adaptive Building Initiative. The joint venture developed retractable facades, responsive shading and ventilation, operable roofs, and canopies for the built environment. Nowhere do the disciplines of art, architecture, and engineering fuse as seamlessly as in the work of inventor Chuck Hoberman.
