Peter Märkli was born in Zurich, Switzerland in 1953. After passing the final qualifying examinations at secondary school, he studied architecture at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich, Zurich. Associates from his university days include architect Rudolf Olgiati and sculptor Hans Josephsohn. He established his own studio in Zurich in 1978.
