How to Use

●Site composition

SHINKENCHIKU.net is comprised of six sites: the websites for four magazines (monthly magazine SHINKENCHIKU, monthly magazine JUTAKUTOKUSHU, quarterly magazine JA and monthly magazine a+u); "BOOKS", a site introducing books along with specials and extras from each magazine; and SHINKENCHIKU ONLINE SHOP, a site selling magazines and books.

Each site within SHINKENCHIKU.net is listed under a common header. By clicking on the icons within the common header, it is possible to move freely between sites.

●Services offered

Architectural work/article search service: it is possible to search for a particular work of architecture or for the issue in which an article appeared through each of SHINKENCHIKU, JUTAKUTOKUSHU, JA and a+u's sites. This service is only available in Japanese for SHINKENCHIKU and JUTAKUTOKUSHU, with the exception of works with English names.



Architectural work/article/architect reference search function: click on the name of an architectural work, dissertation or article mentioned in any of the four magazines, specials, extras, book summaries, or news and information to search for works of architecture and articles. It is also possible to click on an architect's name to bring up a list of publications in which that architect is featured. This service is only offered in Japanese for SHINKENCHIKU, JUTAKUTOKUSHU and other books, special issues and extra editions which are not published in English.

・Introducing past issues and the latest issues of magazines and new titles: the contents of new publications and the latest issues and past issues of SHINKENCHIKU, JUTAKUTOKUSHU, JA and a+u is featured here. (Only limited content is shown if customers do not sign in first).

・Online sale of magazines and books: magazines and books published by Shinkenchiku-sha Co., Ltd and a+u Publishing Co., Ltd are available for purchase by credit card in the SHINKENCHIKU ONLINE SHOP. Please refer to "About SHINKENCHIKU ONLINE SHOP" for more details.

SHINKENCHIKU.net uses cookies for the purposes of authenticating customers accessing the site as members and surveying members' access history and user status.

In order to provide the highest level of service, SHINKENCHIKU.net collects information on customers' access history by utilising either cookie technology or information on IP addresses which customers used to access the SHINKENCHIKU.net's server.

If your browser is set to block cookies, you will not be able to access any of the services as a site member. Please set your browser to "save cookies sent from this site/accept cookies".

SHINKENCHIKU.net uses pop-up windows for various functions including the membership registration screen. ●SHINKENCHIKU.net Member

1. New registration
Click on "New Account" from any of the pages on the SHINKENCHIKU.net site. A member registration page will appear as a pop-up. To become a SHINKENCHIKU.net Member it is necessary to agree to the "SHINKENCHIKU.net Terms of Use". Please read the terms of use carefully, and if you agree, select the "Agree" button to be directed to the registration form. Any information entered will be safely regulated as per the company's "Privacy Policy".

2. Registration form
This registration form is only for use by customers residing outside of Japan. Customers residing within Japan should use the registration form on the Japanese page. If you register through the English page, shipping of goods within Japan will not be possible.
Apart from ID, sex and date of birth, customers are able to confirm, alter or delete any details entered on this page as needed.

The following is a list of characters which may be used.
letters (a-z), numbers (0-9, #), periods (.), dashes (-), underscores (_), apostrophes (')
If an unrecognised character is entered, or an obligatory field (*) is left blank, an alert will be shown when you press "Next". Please enter the necessary information.

①Entering basic information
Please enter basic details about yourself. Please complete each field. Fields marked with an asterisk ＊ are obligatory.


②Entering main contact
Customers who are registering for competitions or using company/affiliation or school as the invoicing address for SHINKENCHIKU ONLINE SHOP, must check'Company/Affilitation' or 'School' and enter fields with an asterisk. It is possible to add to or edit this information at any time.
Please enter the full name of the company or affiliation without abbreviations. Please use spaces between department names.
Please enter school details if yor are student.


③Entering address and contact details
Please complete the fields marked with an asterisk(*). The address chosen will be used as the invoicing address for items purchased in the SHINKENCHIKU ONLINE SHOP. Customers who are registering for competitions or using their company/affiliation address as the delivery address for items purchased in the SHINKENCHIKU ONLINE SHOP should enter both residential and company/affiliation addresses.


④Entering account information
Please enter your choice of ID and password. Your ID and password must be composed of within 16 characters of the English alphabet and/or numerals. Please use letters in lower case (a-z) or capitals (A-Z) as the initial character in your ID. Your ID is case sensitive.
The following is a list of characters which may be used.

⑤Confirming registration
After confirming registration details enter your password again and click "Submit". If there is any information you wish to correct, please click on the relevant fields. Apart from ID, sex and date of birth, customers are able to alter any details entered on this page as needed, even after registration is complete.


⑥Completion of registration
An email confirming registration will be sent to you.

3. Confirm / edit / registered infomation
SHINKENCHIKU.net Member registration details may be edited or confirmed via "Your Account". After signing in, click on "Your Account", which appears at the top of every screen.
Apart from ID, sex and date of birth, customers are able to alter any details entered on this page as needed, even once registration is complete.

①Registration details
Please select information categories to be edited.
Members with magazine subscriptions who need to change their delivery address should make the necessary changes 10 days prior to the magazine's next sale date.


②Confirm registration
After confirming registration details, please enter your password again and click "Submit". If there is any information you wish to correct, please click on the page number you wish to correct. Customers with magazine subscriptions who need to change their delivery address must check "Currently subscribe to magazine".

Change of address during subscription period (important!)

Customers with magazine subscriptions who need to change their delivery address should make the necessary changes 10 days prior to the magazine's next sale date. Please check each magazine's sale date under "Subscription Order".
If changes are not made in time, it is possible that subscriptions may be delivered to the previous address, so customers are requested to make changes as soon as possible.

4. Withdrawl membership from SHINKENCHIKU.net Member
To withdraw from membership from SHINKENCHIKU.net go to "Your Account".
Please see "SHINKENCHIKU.net Terms of Use" for details on how customer information is used after an account is cancelled.
Please click on "Your Account" after signing in.

① Registration details
Current registration details are displayed. Please click "Withdrawal of Membership" to cancel membership.



② Confirmation of cancellation conditions
*Orders for which payment is still being settled are not cancelled through withdrawal of a membership.
* Member information can not be restored if membership is cancelled.
If these conditions are acceptable, please enter your password and click "Withdraw Membership".


③ Withdrawal of Membership

Membership withdrawal procedures are complete.
An email confirming membership withdrawal will be sent to you.

5. ID・Password notification
If you forget your ID or password please follow procedures on "ID/Password Reminder".
Please enter your registered email address and click "Send".
Your ID and password will be sent to your mail address.
If your email address is incorrect or does not match the registered address an error message will be displayed. Please make sure to enter the correct address.

●SHINKENCHIKU.net Member services and hours of operation

・ Commencing membership services
Once membership registration has been completed, you are automatically signed in as a member with immediate access to membership services. To sign in thereafter, enter your ID and password in the box on the top right of the header and click "sign in".

・Membership service hours of operation
Membership services for SHINKENCHIKU.net are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, except in the case that site maintenance is being carried out.
Inquiries will be responded to from 9:30-17:30 (JST) on weekdays (Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays and the New Year period are scheduled holidays). Please use the inquiry form for any questions or comments you may have.

・Automatic sign out
If there is no activity or input on any screen for a certain amount of time after signing in, customers will automatically be signed out.

●Email news and notices from SHINKENCHIKU.net

Receiving SHINKENCHIKU.net email magazine is an option for customers who register as SHINKENCHIKU.net member. Customers who subscribe to SHINKENCHIKU.net email magazine will receive emails from the site on an occasional basis. It is possible to stop or recommence receiving email magazines by signing in and changing settings in "Your Account" on the top left of the header menu.
In the case of important notices, email will be sent to customers regardless of whether they have selected "Don't subscribe" in their settings.

・About this Terms of Use
This Terms of Use stipulates commitments and rules to be observed by all customers who use SHINKENCHIKU.net (referred to below as "this site") and the various sites included within SHINKENCHIKU ONLINE SHOP, which is included within this site.
The customer can click on "About SHINKENCHIKU.net" at the left end of the header of any page, regardless of whether or not they have signed in as a SHINKENCHIKU.net member, to view the "About SHINKENCHIKU.net" information, which includes this agreement.
SHINKENCHIKU.net may change the content of this agreement at any time, without prior notice to the customer.
In the event of any change to this agreement by SHINKENCHIKU.net, the change will be posted in the "About SHINKENCHIKU.net" section of this site immediately. The revised agreement is in effect from the time that the change is displayed on this site, and the customer shall be deemed to have agreed to the revised agreement.
Any member who does not agree to the changed content may use the withdrawal procedure to end membership at any time. Customers wishing to withdraw their membership should click on the menu item "Your Account" in the header of this site and complete the relevant procedure.

・Registration procedure for SHINKENCHIKU.net members
The membership registration procedure must be completed in person by the customer who wishes to become a member, except in cases expressly permitted by SHINKENCHIKU.net. Registration by a proxy is not permitted.
Clicking on Agree for this agreement in the course of the membership registration procedure indicates agreement to all the conditions presented here. Fill out the input form correctly with all the necessary information, with reference to the input-related precautions.
A customer who has agreed to this agreement and completed the membership registration procedure stipulated by SHINKENCHIKU.net becomes a "SHINKENCHIKU.net Member" (abbreviated to "member" below) and has an account as a member.
Use of pages provided as member services, and of functions and information included in them, and purchases of magazines and books etc. on sale in the SHINKENCHIKU ONLINE SHOP, are limited to customers who have become registered users, in person.

・Withdrawal of SHINKENCHIKU.net membership registration
In the following circumstances, membership registration may be withdrawn after the registration procedure has been completed, and legal action may be taken.
　When the registered person has previously had their membership cancelled, or is judged by SHINKENCHIKU.net to be unsuitable.
　When the content of the registration is recognized to be deliberately falsified.
　When the registered person or corporation is recognized to be fictitious.
　When it is recognized that the member acted dishonestly in purchasing magazines, books etc. from the SHINKENCHIKU ONLINE SHOP.
　When the member is recognized to have contravened the law, or this agreement.
　Where other important circumstances are recognized to have arisen which rendered continued member registration unfeasible.
If a member has not signed in at any time within a certain period, the registration of that member may be cancelled without prior notice. SHINKENCHIKU.net bears no liability for any losses suffered as a result of such cancellation.

・Registration information concerning SHINKENCHIKU.net members
The protection of personal information is governed by our "Privacy Policy".
Usage of SHINKENCHIKU.net following confirmation of the input ID and password by the relevant system is deemed to be usage by a member.
Even if the site is used by someone other than the customer, through theft or improper use of the member's ID and password, or in similar circumstances, SHINKENCHIKU.net bears no liability for consequent losses to the customer or any third party.

・Viewing and editing of the registration information of SHINKENCHIKU.net members, and withdrawal from membership
Use the "Your Account" menu item, which appears on the upper left header when the member is signed in, to view and edit registration information or withdraw from membership.
The combination of ID and password is sufficient to view and modify registered personal information at any time, so it is the responsibility of each customer to carefully safeguard their own ID and password. In particular, we recommend changing the password at regular intervals.
Information other than ID, Sex and Date of Birth can be changed at any time.
Update your registered information as soon as it becomes out of date. SHINKENCHIKU.net bears no liability for losses to the customer or any third party caused by failure to update information.

・If you forget your ID and/or password
Signing in to your account will be locked for a fixed period after six errors in ID or password input.
If you have forgotten your ID and/or password, click on "ID/ Password Reminder" menu item, which is on the header when the customer is not signed in. Your ID and password will be e-mailed to your registered e-mail address after you enter the necessary information. However, it will not be possible to send them if you have forgotten the e-mail address. In that case, either try again to sign in, or make a new membership registration.

・Services provided, and the scope of responsibility of SHINKENCHIKU.net
The content of the services provided by SHINKENCHIKU.net is stated under "Services Offered" in the "About SHINKENCHIKU.net" section.
SHINKENCHIKU.net reserves the right to alter, update, add to or discard the above service content, in whole or in part, without notice.
SHINKENCHIKU.net strives to ensure accuracy in the provision of the above services, but provides no warranty for their authenticity, safety or other attributes.
SHINKENCHIKU.net bears no liability for losses etc. suffered by the customer or any third party through the use of information provided to the customer as a member.
In providing the above services, SHINKENCHIKU.net takes diligent care to avoid system interruptions or delays due to faults in communications connections, computers and other equipment, and to avoid computer viruses and related data losses, but it bears no liability for any form of losses etc. suffered by member customers and any third parties due to partial or complete cessation of services in event of force majeure.
SHINKENCHIKU.net takes all possible precautions against computer viruses, but we do not guarantee that content and e-mails sent from SHINKENCHIKU.net will not include computer viruses or other harmful content.
SHINKENCHIKU.net reserves the right to suspend or stop its services, in whole or in part, or take any other necessary measures, without prior notice, in situations such as the following:
When performing emergency maintenance work to ensure constant availability of its services in good condition;
When the system is subjected to concentrated loads;
When it is judged that the operation of the system could be impaired;
When there is a need to protect the security of members;
In other situations deemed to necessitate such action. In such situations, SHINKENCHIKU.net bears no liability for losses to the customer or any third party.
SHINKENCHIKU.net bears no liability for losses etc. to the customer or any third party caused by contravention of this agreement by member customers.
If SHINKENCHIKU.net suffers any losses etc. due to contravention of this agreement by a member customer, that customer must provide compensation for such losses.

・Service usage fees
SHINKENCHIKU.net can set usage fees for services on this site.

・Relationships between SHINKENCHIKU.net content and publications
Magazine features on architectural works and other article information published on SHINKENCHIKU.net are based on the equivalent generally-published content of four magazines, SHINKENCHIKU, JUTAKUTOKUSHU, JA and a+u, including their extra editions and special issues, and of books. Therefore, the names of those architectural works, names of their designers, and other details may differ from current equivalents.
If the content included errors in notation etc. on initial publication which were corrected in the next or later editions of the magazine, the corrected information will be published on SHINKENCHIKU.net.
Even if information has already appeared in a magazine, it may be impossible to publish the same information on SHINKENCHIKU.net due to an objection by the designer or other person with rights over the featured architectural work or article.
Furthermore, information which was gathered but not disclosed in the initial magazine publication, and information gathered by subsequent reporting, may be published on SHINKENCHIKU.net, with the permission of the designer and other right holders, when such publication is deemed necessary to convey an understanding of that architectural work.

・Operators and managers of SHINKENCHIKU.net and SHINKENCHIKU ONLINE SHOP
The SHINKENCHIKU.net site, in its entirety, is created, operated and managed by SHINKENCHIKU Online Co., Ltd. The content of the official magazine sites, and of the publications introduced on the Books page, are created by Shinkenchiku-sha Co., Ltd. and a+u Publishing Co., Ltd., which are the publishers of those publications. Shinkenchiku-sha Co., Ltd. is the vendor for the SHINKENCHIKU ONLINE SHOP.

・Intellectual property
Intellectual property rights for all content contained within the SHINKENCHIKU.net system and services belongs to SHINKENCHIKU Online Co., Ltd., unless stated otherwise.
Copyrights for photographs, diagrams, sketches, text and other such content are retained by their original authors. Diagrams, sketches and other representations of architectural works are copyright of the indicated designers. Text with a named author is copyright of its author. Copyrights for the content and covers of bibliography belong to their publishers. Photographers are stated for all photographs. For photographs with no stated photographer for NEWS, INFORMATION, PRODUCTS etc., the content provider has exempted those photographs from statement of the photographer, so the copyright is managed by the content provider.
The content of this site is protected by the Copyright Law. Duplication, copying, translation, transfer and similar operations within the permission of the copyright holder are prohibited by law.
Digitized photographs and similar content on the site has been digitally watermarked, and regular patrols will be conducted to identify improper use.
The customer agrees in advance that, should the customer contravene this agreement, SHINKENCHIKU.net has the right to prohibit said customer's use, duplication, publication, distribution, transfer, loan, translation, adaptation, licensing, transfer or recycled use of the content, individual data, combined data and software concerned, and to demand from the user the value of any profits gained through such actions.

　Contravention of the law or this agreement etc.
Even if they do not contravene this agreement, the actions above may be subject to legal penalty under criminal law, copyright law, or other fields.

・Governing law
This agreement shall be interpreted on the basis of Japanese law. In the event of any dispute related to this agreement, the Tokyo District Court shall be the exclusive agreement jurisdictional court of first instance.
